ANNOUNCING FOUR CHANNEL FUNCTIONALITY

As of November 23, 2020, all Desksets/RGU's will be built standard with the Four Channel Feature (R2.4). This will allow a deskset user to connect to and monitor up to four radios at one time. The current and prior versions of the MCD 5000 Deskset only supported the connection of one radio. If a customer would like to upgrade deployed units with the Four Channel feature, they will need to purchase the Four Channel License/Software. See step 8 below for ordering instructions

Release 2.4 also allows the support of the APX Consolette E5 configuration.


MCD 5000 DESKSET SYSTEM OVERVIEW:

The MCD 5000 Deskset System is the Motorola Solution's next generation radio dispatch deskset platform that utilizes VoIP technology. The MCD 5000 Deskset can be deployed on existing customer's IP network or on a stand-alone IP network. The MCD 5000 Deskset is part of the MCD 5000 Deskset System that provides radio dispatch capability when connected to a two-way radio device. MCD 5000 Desksets can be placed anywhere on the IP network. Each MCD 5000 Deskset can connect up to four radio devices at a time. The MCD 5000 Deskset may connect directly to a radio or connect up to four radios over IP network via the MCD 5000 Radio Gateway Units (RGU).

The MCD 5000 Deskset can be used where MC3000, MC1000 and MC2000 desksets have been used in the past. In addition, it can be used with the APX Consolette and/or a MOTOTRBO XPR5550e.

The MCD 5000 Deskset can connect to the following radios:

  • ASTRO XTL5000 Consolette (W9): ASTRO Spectra Consolette, ASTRO Spectra Plus Consolette
  • CDM1550 Series Radios: CDM 1550, CDM 1550 LS, CDM 1550 LS+ - See Note Below
  • MCS 2000 Model III Control Station - See Note Below
  • APX Consolette (via IP)- 05 and E5 Control Head.  (E5 CH New in R02.04.00)
  • 2-Wire or 4-Wire Tone Remote Control (TRC) devices
  • 4-Wire E&M devices
  • Dimetra-TETRA Mobile Radios (MTM5400 & MTM800E)
  • MOTOTRBO XPR5550e Control Station (NEW in R02.03.00)

Note: The CDM1550 Series Radios and MCS 2000 Model III Control Station will not be supported starting in release 2.3.4 (Nov 18, 2019 release). If the customer still wants to use these radios, they can downgrade the Deskset and RGU to any release prior to 2.3.4.

MCD 5000 Deskset System Components

The MCD 5000 Deskset System consists of the following components:

  • MCD 5000 DESKSET - IP-based deskset that provides dispatch capability when connected to a radio. Each MCD 5000 Deskset can connect to and monitor up to four radio channels at a time.
  • DESKSET AUDIO ACCESSORIES (optional) – each MCD 5000 Deskset is capable of supporting one Desktop Paddle Microphone or one Headset Jackbox in addition to a Push-To-Talk (PTT) Foot Switch.
  • MCD 5000 RADIO GATEWAY UNIT (RGU) – is used to connect radios to the MCD 5000 Deskset System. Each MCD 5000 RGU can interface up to 4 radios to the MCD 5000 Deskset System IP network. A MCD 5000 Deskset user can create a talkpath over the IP network to a radio resource connected to the MCD 5000 RGU. The MCD 5000 Deskset can connect to and monitor up to four radio channels at a time.
  • IP NETWORK –can be deployable on customer's existing WAN/LAN IP Network or on a dedicated IP network for the deskset system.
  • TWO-WAY RADIO DEVICES– are used with the MCD 5000 Deskset to provide access to the customer’s land mobile radio (LMR) system.

  • CONFIGURATION TOOL (CT) APPLICATION – used to configure all parameters and settings on the MCD 5000 Deskset and MCD 5000 RGU. The CT Application can be located remotely anywhere on the IP network or locally using Ethernet connection. The CT Client PC runs on Microsoft Windows® 7 (64-bit) or Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) or Windows 10 loT Enterprise LTSB 2015/2016 (64-bit) O


Features

The MCD 5000 Deskset provides a comprehensive feature set as listed below.

MCD 5000 Deskset System does offer Windows PC Operating System Hardening CD Kits for Motorola supplied PCs.
Element hardening must be applied to every box in the MCD 5000 System.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • The IA OS Hardening CD (FVN5956) for the MCD 5000 Deskset System is ONLY compliant with Motorola supplied PCs.
  • For the CT Application, (HKVN4861A or HKVN4862A) the compliant Motorola Supplied PC's are: TT2538 (Z420-Win 7), TT2833 (Z440-Win 7), TT3106 (Z440-Win 10), TT3225 (Z2 Mini-Win 10), TT3492 (Z2 Mini G4-Win 10) and TT3903 (Z2 Mini G5-Win 10)

Ordering Requirements

This section will lead you through the necessary ordering steps required to order the MCD 5000 Deskset System.

NOTE: For EMEA, orders are entered in OMAR. In the "Product" field, enter "IPDESKSET" and click GO to get to the MCD 5000 Product.

STEP 1: ORDER THE MCD 5000 DESKSET

MCD 5000 Deskset is a desktop console that provides digital control to a variety of Motorola radios. The MCD 5000 Deskset may connect directly to a radio or it may connect up to four radios over an IP network via the MCD 5000 Radio Gateway Units (RGU). Through the digital control link the MCD 5000 Deskset emulates the control head of the radios allowing the deskset to perform all the functions that can be performed using the radio control head.

Below are the ordering instructions:

1. Order the MCD 5000 Deskset Hardware (F2380) - Required

NOTE: Starting in R2.5 (March 17, 2021) the Deskset is no longer shipping with a CD that contains the manuals. We moved the manuals to an online process which requires the customer to order a separate model for access to this information. It is important that you remember to add this new model... see step 2.

2. Order the MCD 5000 Documentation (HKVN4865A). Required but at zero cost. The customer will need to provide an e-mail to allow the user to access the on-line documentation via the Flexera Download tool.

3. Order a MCD 5000 Deskset Power Supply for each MCD 5000 Deskset - Required

  • FHN7469A - Assy, P/S, MCD 5000 Deskset/RGU Power Supply with USA Power Cord (NA Plug)
  • FHN7485A - Assy, Kit, FRU: MCD 5000 Deskset/RGU Power Supply with out Power Cord (For EU & UK order plug below)
  • 3004209T01 - Power Cord (EU Plug)
  • 3004209T02 - Plug, British Standard (UK Plug)

4. Order an ETHERNET CABLE for each MCD 5000 Deskset to connect to LAN Switch - Required. Available through MSI or may be customer provided.

5. Dependent on Deskset Configuration - Order appropriate RADIO INTERFACE CABLE to connect radio to deskset directly if not using a MCD 5000 RGU.

If system configuration is "Single Deskset" connected to "Single Radio"--- then order the appropriate RADIO INTERFACE CABLE to connect radio to deskset directly:

Note: The CDM1550 Series Radios and MCS 2000 Model III Control Station will not be supported starting in release 2.3.4 (Nov 18, 2019 release). If the customer still wants to use these radios, they can downgrade the Deskset and RGU to any release prior to 2.3.4.

STEP 2: ORDER MCD 5000 DESKSET NATIVE LANGUAGE SUPPORT - OPTIONAL 

The MCD 5000 Deskset provides the Software enforced licensing option for Native Language support feature.
The MCD 5000 Deskset ships standard with English on the display.
IF a 2nd/Native language (German, French or Japanese) is desired/required on the MCD 5000 deskset display,
THEN complete this Step otherwise skip to Step 3 below.

Below are the ordering instructions IF 2nd/Native Language Support is desired/required:

1. Order the HKVN4858A MCD 5000 Licensing. Quantiy is equal to the number of desksets being upgraded.
2. Enter E-mal address to receive SW License and access.


STEP 3: ORDER MCD 5000 DESKSET ACCESSORIES - OPTIONAL 

The MCD 5000 Deskset ships standard with a built-in condenser microphone, an internal front panel speaker, and a K-style handset with a Push-To-Talk (PTT) button.

In addition, the following OPTIONAL MCD 5000 Deskset accessories are also available for ordering:

  • MCD 5000 Deskset Wall Mount Kit (FHN7394) - Max of 1 per deskset
  • PTT Footswitch (BLN6732B) - Max of 1 per desket
  • Desktop Paddle Microphone (RMN5068) OR MCD 5000 Headset Jackbox (FHN7470) - Max of 1 per deskset
  • Local Logging Cable (FKN8696) to connect a generic analog voice logger to deskset - Max of 1 per deskset
  • VIP Cable (FKN8697) - Max of 1 per deskset

NOTE: The Desktop Paddle Microphone and Headset cannot be used simultaneously since they use the same connector on the MCD 5000 Deskset.

Below are the ordering instructions:

1. Order a MCD 5000 Deskset Wall Mount Kit (FHN7394) for each MCD 5000 Deskset - Optional

2. Order a PTT Footswitch (BLN6732B) for each MCD 5000 Deskset - Optional
NOTE: Each MCD 5000 Deskset can support up one PTT footswitch. The PTT footswitch provides two foot pedals in a rugged, metal housing with a 7 foot cable. One pedal is used for the general transmit feature while the other pedal is used for the monitor feature.

3. Order a Desktop Paddle Microphone (RMN5068) for each MCD 5000 Deskset - Optional
NOTE: Desktop Paddle Microphone and Headset cannot be used simultaneously since they use the same connector on the MCD 5000 Deskset.

4. Order a Headset for each MCD 5000 Deskset - Optional

A headset may be used with the MCD 5000 Deskset to allow the deskset user to listen to receive audio and to talk on the radio channel. The MCD 5000 Deskset supports one headset per deskset. The headset must be connected to a MCD 5000 Deskset Headset Jackbox (FHN7470).

A headset consist of two parts, a base and a top.

The Headset Base consists of an amplifier unit with volume control, an optional PTT switch, a connector for connecting to the headset jack, a clip for attaching the amplifier to the user's clothing and either a 15 or 25 foot cable for connecting to the jack.

The Headset Top consists of an earpiece, a microphone, a cable for connecting to the bottom section and a clip for attaching the cable to the user's clothing.

To use a headset with the MCD 5000 Deskset the following MUST be ordered per deskset:

  • Order MCD 5000 Headset Jackbox Hardware (FHN7470)
  • Order Headset Base - choice of two headset bases (RLN6098 - Headset Base with PTT switch, 15' CBL) OR (RLN6099A - Headset Base with PTT Switch, 25' CBL)
  • Order Headset Top - several to choose from - see below:
    RMN5150A - Over-the-Head Monaural Headset Top with Noise Canceling Microphone
    RMN5151A - Over-the-Head Binaural Headset Top with Noise Canceling Microphone

5. Order a MCD 5000 Logger Cable (FKN8696) for each MCD 5000 Deskset - Optional
NOTE: The MCD 5000 Deskset contains a local 4W-E&M logging output with the ability to connect a generic external voice logger directly to the MCD 5000 Deskset. 

6. Order a MCD 5000 VIP Cable (FKN8697) for each MCD 5000 Deskset - Optional

STEP 4: ORDER MCD 5000 RADIO GATEWAY UNITS (RGUs)

MCD 5000 RGU is used to connect radios to the MCD 5000 Deskset System. Each MCD 5000 RGU can interface up to 4 radios to the MCD 5000 Deskset System IP network. A MCD 5000 Deskset user can create a talkpath over the IP network to a radio resource connected to the MCD 5000 RGU. The MCD 5000 Deskset can connect to and monitor up to four radios at a time.

NOTE: The original model of the RGU- F7979A was cancelled in August of 2018. It was replaced by model F7879B (R2.3). The new model has refreshed hardware components but it's connectivity and functionality is identical to the original model.

The customer can integrate the F7879B model with an existing MCD 5000 Deskset System that uses RGU model F7979A. However, if the System is not currently using release R2.3 or higher, they will need to upgrade their system. 2. Order a MCD 5000 RGU Power Supply for each MCD 5000 RGU - Required

NOTE: If installing MCD 5000 Desksets in parallel to fielded MC3000 desksets using a Digital Junction Box (DJB) – you must order the appropriate DJB / RADIO INTERFACE CABLES. Each MCD 5000 RGU can connect up to 4 radios.

NOTE: Each MCD 5000 RGU Rackmount Shelf can fit up to 2 MCD 5000 RGUs (F7879B) per shelf.

STEP 6: ORDER FOUR CHANNEL FEATURE UPGRADE - OPTIONAL

The ability to connect up to and monitor four radios at one time was implemented in R2.4 (Dec 2020). Customers with deployed systems that wish to upgrade to this feature, must purchase the Four Channel License/Software.

Below are the ordering instructions for the Four Channel Upgrade.

1. Order the MCD 5000 Licensing model for the type of MCD 5000 system configuration deployed. Enter Qty = number of desksets needing the Four Channel Support feature

    The MCD 5000 Deskset ships standard with English on the display.
